Tips To Avoid Renovation Mistake

No matter you're expert on redecorate or a newbie to begin the renovation, please read and pay attention to the following tips, if somethings goes wrong... it may end up costing you big time and wasting your budget. But the good news is it's pretty easy to avoid.


1. Do Research.

Have a clear understanding of your expectations for the renovation and present a clear image of it.


*Which area.

*Which item.

*Which style.





2. Set A Budget.

Work out the budget and minus 10%-20% for back-up. Why?


*You change your mind to another design when the work begun, the demolish job may cost extra.

*changes of materials and colour.

*Add on items such as electrical system/plug, lighting connection, etc.



3. Taking Accurate Measurement

The basis for pricing, cutting and managing materials and other resources.


*If you get this part wrong, it will come back to bite you in many ways.

*Let your contractor to do so.




4. Choosing The Right Contractor.

It’s always tempting to go for the cheapest option, however this’s not usually the wisest decision.


Be aware on their quotation which is not as simple as only "brown cabinet/master room/etc". The written estimate should Include the product details with size, materials, quantity, permit cost and so on. If your estimate doesn’t include these, It’s also important to meet them face-to-face and ask them questions to understand how they work to prevent the contractor is either not very thorough or he’s underestimating the project.


Don't be scare to ask them question, you have the right to know more. A good contractor will answer you as soon as possible with continues notification, be patience for waiting a more accurate estimates.



5. Confirm Your Design

Get a specific design down and not go if you are constantly changing your mind. Try not to change when it is half done.


As mentioned, it will cost you a lot if your plan A formed and you wish to demolish and change to plan B/C/etc, after that you turn back to redo plan A... Wasting your time and money on workmanship. Also some of the materials may broken if move in/out frequently.




6. Set Proper Timeline

Have to confirm a deadline within 1-6 months to done the project. Then only can arrange accordingly into time table which wont miss out any job and reduce changing times.




7. Using Quality Materials

Get advice from contractor and choose your favourite texture.


*A good substance can be used for more than ten years.
