Most Common Renovations Requested

Updated: Apr 19, 2018

Renovating a home requires a lot of investment in terms of money and time. But that doesn’t stop homeowners in upgrading their little haven. If you are curious on what are the most common home renovations done by Malaysians, take a look at this list:

Kitchen cabinet renovation

Kitchen being the heart of most homes, it is simply logical that this area is a favourite for home improvement project. You could rebuild the whole kitchen to turn it into an open plan kitchen with new kitchen cabinets, or build a walk-in pantry, or even add an entire kitchen extension.

Upgrade to marble, tiles, vinyl, hardwood or laminated flooring

Installing new flooring is another popular option. Some homeowners choose to install new flooring directly on top of old tiles. New flooring also has the benefit of adding features such as waterproofing, scratch proof and being kid-friendly. Maintenance for options such as vinyl and laminated floor can also be easier.

Toilet and bathroom upgrade

Although the bathroom is commonly the smallest room in a home, never underestimate the power it has over the value of a property. A bathroom makeover can include equipping the bathroom with new flooring, tiles from floor to ceiling or installing new fittings to turn it into a 5-star hotel bathroom.

New electrical wiring and fittings

Old wiring can be dangerous as the wire insulation might have deteriorated over time. New wiring promises less or no more breaker trips or electric surges when one touches the electrical appliances. Besides new electrical wiring, Malaysians often upgrade to 3-phase wiring to handle more air-conditioner units without always tripping the fuses.

New paintwork

A fresh new coat of paint is a must for most homes in Malaysia, especially when the festive season is approaching. Nowadays, there are many types of paint available in the market. Some are wipeable, textured, create a slight glossy look and many more. You can also choose non-VOC (volatile organic compound) paints at your home as paint can release harmful chemicals as it dries, or over time. This can lead to allergies or health problems.
